Easter Egg Dog Hunt at Wheeler Historic Farm in SLC

Looking for fun activities you can do with your dog? We went to the Wheeler historic farm, Easter egg dog hunt in Salt Lake City for the first time this past Thursday, and it was a blast!

It was the first time I’ve ever taken honey to a dog specific event, and it was super fun for Honey to not only get all the attention from all the humans, but also get to meet so many new dog friends.

You can check out the video of our experience below!

If you haven’t heard of Wheeler Historic Farm before, it’s a living history museum located in Murray, Utah. The farm is named after Henry J. Wheeler, who purchased the land in the late 1800s. The farm remained in the Wheeler family for over 100 years until it was donated to Salt Lake County in 1999.

Today, the Wheeler Historic Farm is a popular place for anyone wanting to learn about Utah’s agricultural history. The farm features historic buildings and exhibits, a modern petting zoo, gardens, and an orchard.

After checking in, we got our treat bag filled with all sorts of dog treats from local small businesses, and to go look at all of the vendors inside the barn. They had everything from treat jars to snuffle mat to have made dog toys and treats. There is even a little spot to take a picture in front of a fun backdrop.

They had a fenced in area for dogs to play off leash, and it was super fun taking Honey around to see the cows and horses that live on the farm.

It was so cute seeing the excitement of all the dogs of all shapes and sizes, just taking in all the sights, sounds, and smells.

I was a little worried about taking Honey somewhere with so many dogs just because she has a hard time with other dogs sometimes, but I was really pleasantly surprised to see that everyone was really good about keeping their dogs on a leash outside of the Off Leash area, and that all of the dogs were really well behaved.

The eggs were not just any ordinary eggs, but were filled with dog treats and were scattered all throughout the snow (I know, there’s still snow on the ground!)

It ended up being such a fun event for both me and Honey. It was a great way to spend the day together, get some exercise, and have fun. We‘ll definitely be back next year!

If you haven’t been to an Easter egg dog hunt, I highly recommend checking it out! It’s a fun and unique way to celebrate the holiday with your fur baby.
