It can be hard to resist the ease of plopping our little ones in front of the TV when we need to get things done, but the effort is so worth the reward of making the extra effort to provide interactive, engaging, and stimulating activities that foster connection for our kids—here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing!
- Take them to a local park if the weather is nice. Some fun things to do while you’re there could be collecting rocks/leafs or bug hunting!
- Create a fun sensory bin activity for them to enjoy either indoors or outdoors. Read HERE for more ideas for creating a sensory bin they’ll love!
- Go for a library run! Look up their schedule for toddler/baby time/activities, as well as special activities/events hosted by the library
- See what local farmer’s markets/boutique shows are going on!
- Visit a local farm/petting zoo
- If your library isn’t nearby, try Barnes and Noble! They provide a complimentary story time on certain days too, so contact them to get their schedule.
- Explore a nearby greenhouse/garden. We love Cactus and Tropicals local to us here in Utah.
- Plant a garden or take a walk at a local garden
- Cook/bake a simple meal/snack together. These are some of our favorite toddler cookbooks to give you some good ideas!

- Weather permitting, go for a stroller/bike ride outside. If not, go for a stroller ride/walk at a local mall
- Try a screen free audio device like Tonies, Yoto Player, or Story Pod. We have the Story Pod because it seemed better suited for younger kids (my little one is not quite two yet) and they seem to have a good variety of options for listening. I especially appreciate that they have one geared for sleep/bedtime (including meditations, stories, and music) to help with bedtime struggles. They also have books/trivia to accompany some of their audio.
