If you live anywhere like our wintry home in Utah, you may feel like the winter months are just long, dark, and dreary. But it’s amazing what a difference just a couple of small additions to your home can make in boosting your overall mood and motivation!

You may have heard the term, “hygge” being thrown around quite a bit of late, so long story short—hygge is all about relaxing to enjoy life’s little pleasures. In Old Norse it means “protected from the outside world,” and what better way to do that than during a harsh winter storm?

Here are just a couple things Honey and I LOVE to help make a cozier, warmer home during the winter months.

LOTS and LOTS of blankets.

Knitted, minky, you can shop our favorites below, but my goodness there is nothing bettter than cozying up on the couch with so many fuzzy, fluffy, warm blankets! We always have at least one or two lying on the couch, ready for cuddling up and keeping warm.

Lamps/lighting.

I never realized before, but lighting is EVERYTHING! Sometimes, you want to adjust between super bright or no light at all—bring in some very muted table lamps or our favorite lamp below that allows for adjustments to the color and brightness of your light so you can adjust depending on your mood!

Warm Slippers.

Nothing is worse than walking around a house with cold feet! I LOVE warm socks and slippers to keep me warm—my husband and I both match with these SUPER comfy (great for your feet if you ever get corns or blisters) slippers!

Yummy Teas (or in Honey’s case—broths or treats!).

When you’re cold, it’s amazing to feel like you’re being warmed from the INSIDE, right? Some teas, unfortunately include ingredients you wouldn’t knowingly want in your body, but here are some brands with clean, USDA organic ingredients. And we can’t exclude Honey from the best ingredients, too! These broths/doggy treats are from brands that I trust to have clean and safe ingredients for Honey.

Warm doggy bed.

Honey loves her fuzzy bed and I love how she looks like a little donut when she’s curled up inside it! It can be hard to find a dog bed that is as pretty as it is comfy, but this one definitely fits the bill.

Candles, so many candles.

Oooh the ambience a nice-smelling candle can set on a cold winter night. I hate that many candles are actually toxic for the inside of your home, but natural soy wax candles are a great alternative.

Flowers or colorful wall art.

Anything to throw a pop of color into your home when all you can see out the window is white snow!

Warm sweaters.

There totally is a connection between dressing nice and feeling good about yourself! I know for me, a lot of times when I’m cold I just wanna put on a nice comfy pair of sweats and a hoodie, but I’ve found some cozy alternatives that look as nice as they feel!

Warm throw pillows.

Having soft pillows to rearrange to provide the optimum comfort (whether it’s an aching back we need to support, etc.) is always nice when cozying up on the couch too.
